FAQ
What are the best materials to build "green"?
That is a hard question to answer! Every material we work with has a positive and negative aspect when considering this subject. I believe my responsibility is to utilize best building standards to ensure the structure lasts as long as possible.
Is a building permit required to build a deck?
Yes! Your local building inspector is there for your protection. These authorities approve all of our decks. Compliance with the latest codes is somewhat complex and requires working with an inspector who is up-to-date on current changes.
What is the best material for building my deck?
For framing, we use P.T. pine from Anderson Brothers Lumber Company in Amelia. They have been our suppliers since 1987!
Most composite material properly installed will provide good service. Ipe and other exotic hardwoods are both beautiful and durable. Another wood we look forward to using is Siberian Larch Pine. From all reports it is a great product at a reasonable price.
The hardware used to assemble your deck is a subject that is of equal importance! We only use the highest quality name-brand products for your deck!
Will you stay on my job site until it's completed?
Yes! It is our policy to finish a project before moving to the next one. We provide a written start and completion date in your contract!
Is your company licensed and insured?
Yes, I am a Class B Contractor, License #2705 008763. We carry commercial vehicle insurance, liability insurance and workman's compensation insurance.
Any other thoughts you have to help us decide our builder?
Ask them about their tools! At A Better Deck.com, we have invested more than $20,000 in tools to ensure quality craftsmanship and efficiency in construction. With all the products available today, we feel this is important to the ability of the contractor to provide the deck you can enjoy for many years!
